Deeply rooted
“Palo Alto” is the name given to the thorny trees that are spread across the gentle slopes of the Maule Valley. The dry, rocky soils are the perfect environment for them to thrive. And this is also where the Palo Alto estate’s plots are situated, as poor soils produce luscious wines. The Palo Alto wines are an elegant reflection of the terroir of their famous homeland. Héctor Urzúa, winemaker at Palo Alto, has been searching the Maule Valley assiduously for the best wine growing areas for more than 22 years. And the many international awards he has received in that time show that he has indeed managed to find the best conditions for each variety across the various regions. The estate launched its “ENJOY WINE, GO SOLAR” campaign in March 2017 and installed solar panels and pumps in a school in Lo Figueroa in Chile. This means that the school can now buy hot water and clean, renewable energy at affordable prices. The estate was chosen as BEST GREEN LAUNCH OF THE YEAR at the 2017 Drinks Business Green Awards for this large-scale project which benefits over 200 schoolchildren and their teachers and parents.
