Weine aus dem Garten Eden - Seit über 150 Jahren

The roots of the Guedes family at Quinta da Aveleda in the heart of the Vinho Verde region go back deep into the 17th century. Fertile valleys in lush, rich green extend far into this area between Minho and Douro. The estate itself is surrounded by ancient trees, ponds covered with water lilies and enchanted paths. The overgrown landscape, in which the Guedes family's lush vineyards are located, has long been an important part of the family identity. Spicy, fresh grape varieties such as Alvarinho and Loureiro ripen in this Garden of Eden. Resounding names and expressive grapes that can only be grown here. These conditions are the basis for the delicately sparkling, refreshing Vinho Verde wines. Under the illustrious name of the fertile vineyard "Casal Garcia", Aveleda has made these wines famous worldwide with their lightness. In 1939, the young French oenologist Eugène Hélisse was on his way home to Porto from the grape harvest in the Douro Valley. When he saw the vineyards of Quinta da Aveleda, he decided to end his journey. He approached the owner at the time, Roberto Guedes, and was actually able to convince him to take him on as cellar master on a trial basis. After a year, his baptism of fire took place with the wine barrel tasting - and was a complete success. The brilliant color and crisp freshness became synonymous with Aveleda wines. The lace cloth with which he wiped the drops from the bottle still adorns the label today.
