Die Wiege des Silvaners
One of the oldest wine villages in Germany, the 26th generation of the princely family and a winery bear the same name: Castell. Castell has been dedicated to wine for almost 800 years and planted the first Silvaner vines in Germany in 1659. To this day, the local grape variety is at the heart of the VDP winery. Its greatest potential lies in the seven VDP-classified single vineyards with valuable soils, five of which are monopole vineyards. The climatic conditions in Castell are ideal for viticulture. The forest plays an important role in this. In summer it brings freshness, in winter it has a protective effect. This interplay results in very mineral wines with a clear, purist style that are clearly characterized by the gypsum keuper. Casteller wines always win through maturity and convince through longevity. This is why they are matured in wooden barrels made from oak from our own forests.
