Like all beautiful things, Fontanafredda was born out of a love story: the first king of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II (1820 - 1878), bought the vineyard for his future wife. Today, Fontanafredda - which means "cold spring" - owns 100 hectares of vineyards in the best locations in Piedmont and is situated in the beautiful Serralunga d'Alba, the region where Barolo is grown. Fontanafredda draws on all its resources to produce its classic, powerful and velvety red wines, first and foremost Barolo. These are elegant wines with ripe tannins and a fruity structure that are full of finesse and embody the Fontanafredda tradition.
